Joshua Klein's crow vending machine
and
Joshua Klein speaks about crows and how the machine works

Looks like he's read the book In the Company of Crows and Ravens by John Marzluff and Tony Angell, most of the information in the talk sounds like a fairly direct lift from their studies. Nonetheless, I think the vending machine idea is fairly brilliant.

Thanks to "depleted" for posting the link in his DA journal to begin with, and of course for taking those lovely pictures that my tattoo is based on.

Interesting concept--sadly, I am able to envisage disadvantaged crows lurking on seedy street corners..."Hey, Mister, can you spare a coin to help a crow out of a rut?", or, possibly, mugging defenseless little old ladies for the loose change in the bottoms of their handbags...

I wouldn't put it past 'em. They already kind of do that for sandwiches and pastries that look inviting to them.

The crows around here like me because I share before they have to mug me. :)

A pre-emptive approach, then? It works, & corvids, in general, are cool.

Always wanted a raven, since I were a young lad, to perch upon my shoulder as I wandered hither & yon. Unfortunately, in these parts, they nest on branches the thickness of my wrist, about 70 feet off the ground, making it difficult to raid a nest (best chance of having a happy bird is to imprint it youngish). It may never happen--no regrets, just enjoying the presence of my little Brothers & Sisters (it's an Odin thing).

Cheers! Snorri.

Even if they don't sit on you, sometimes they let you in on important secrets.

Have you read "The Mind of the Raven" by Bernd Heinrich? It's a good'n.
